In mechanical manufacturing, one of the important measures to reduce the weight of components and extend their service life is to improve the strength level of materials used.

In mechanical manufacturing, one of the important measures to reduce the weight of components and extend their service life is to improve the strength level of materials used.

And now the power capacity of machinery is increasing, the speed is getting higher, and the load on machinery is also getting heavier. Improving the strength level of materials is also an inevitable development trend.

Quenching and tempering of medium carbon steel is the oldest and most widely used heat treatment method in the mechanical manufacturing industry, known as quenching and tempering.

Based on the long-term excessive demand for plasticity and toughness, it is natural to adopt higher tempering temperatures (550 ° -650 ° C), which can achieve higher plasticity and toughness values but lose strength.

As mentioned above, a large number of production examples and our research work indicate that the indicator for measuring the resistance of actual parts to impact loads should be the multiple repeated impact breaking resistance indicator, rather than the single impact value (α x).

As mentioned above, our experimental research results also indicate that for medium carbon steel, the tempering process corresponding to the optimal multiple impact resistance is not high-temperature tempering, but low-temperature tempering.
